Adventure in the Atlantic

3,000 nautical miles non-stop, weeks of wind, waves and complete personal responsibility – that’s both an adventure and a challenge! How do you prepare for it? What needs to be planned, what can you learn in advance – and which situations do you simply have to face up to?

In this webinar, a professional skipper shares Constantin Claviez drawing on his experience 21 Atlantic crossings. He reveals what really matters: from route selection, the crew and yacht technology to the small, often crucial details:

  • Preparation is everything
From choosing the vessel, through yacht technology and route planning, to provisions planning
  • Sailing across the ocean
Sea weather – from calm to storm, on-board routines, watch rota and the joy of offshore sailing
  • There’s always something
From technical faults to extreme human experiences – coping with
    unforeseen situations

Constantin Claviez is the skipper of the SY CHARISMA, a Nautor’s Swan 441. He has been a professional sailor for 30 years. He has 300,000 nautical miles under his belt, having led 1,800 crew members on 420 charter trips and completed 21 Atlantic crossings. His sailing grounds extend across the North Atlantic – from Europe to Newfoundland, from Spitsbergen to the Caribbean. With dedicated amateur crews, he takes part in international offshore regattas such as the Rolex Fastnet Race, the Caribbean 600 and the Transocean Race.
