After the launch in Lorient, France, and initial tests in the Bay of Biscay, Boris Herrmann celebrates the christening of his innovative racer at home on the Elbe. It promises to be an unforgettable sailing celebration.
It all starts early in the morning of 6 September in Cuxhaven. There, "Malizia - Seaexplorer" will start the feeder to Hamburg's harbour city at 5 am. The official escort cruise starts at around 10.30 a.m. at buoy 133 near Blankenese. The Elbphilharmonie will be passed on the port side and the ship will then turn round at Norderelbphal. The Sandtorhafen itself will remain closed to unauthorised escort vessels. Numerous TV teams and photographers, drones and helicopters will document the journey over the last few kilometres of the river.
Boris Herrmann, his crew and the "Malizia - Seaexplorer" will arrive at the Elbphilharmonie at 11.30 a.m., and the bridge will open at 12.30 p.m. for entry into Sandtorhafen harbour. The escort boats will not be able to moor there; they should use the Citysportboothafen or other marinas in the harbour area such as Harburg or Finkenwerder. It is advisable to book a guest berth in good time. It pays not to turn away straight away. The supporting programme is varied and worth seeing.
Here are the programme highlights for the two Malizia days in Hamburg's Hafencity. The events will all take place on the Magellan Terraces and in Sandtorhafen harbour. You can also meet us there - Delius Klasing Verlag and YACHT will be exhibiting in a pagoda, as will Random House, where you can buy books about Boris' offshore career and his success at the Vendée Globe - including an autograph session on Wednesday (see below).
