"Malizia 3" is being built at the Multiplast shipyard in Vannes, Brittany
Boris Herrmann's racer is currently being built in France for the upcoming single-handed regatta around the world. YACHT visited the shipyard

The new construction from the French team VPLP is Herrmann's first new build, a carbon projectile customised to his wishes and sailing style, Germany's hottest offshore racer. The Hamburg native wants to win with it and is one of the favourites. We visited "Malizia 3" at the shipyard.

A striking feature is the extremely full bow and a pronounced keel jump, the so-called rocker. This is intended to ensure that the boat drills less into the waves and undercuts, and makes it easier to push the stern into the water using water ballast. The rudders can not only be swivelled out of the water, but also raised vertically into the air to simplify repairs or even the replacement of a blade after a collision. The hull is extremely robust and has an unusually large number of stringers and reinforcements.

But there is much more to discover on the new "Malizia 3", with which Herrmann now wants to sail to the podium after his unfortunate fifth place (collision with a fishing boat last night).

Visit the "Malizia 3" with us at the shipyard and read an interview with the designers. Now in the new YACHT, which will be available from newsagents from 13 July. You can also order the magazine Order directly from the publisher or as digital magazine download.
