The drama of the night has come to a perhaps conciliatory end - Boris Herrmann has crossed the finish line. The Hamburg native has thus realised his greatest sailing dream: taking part in the Vendée Globe and reaching the finish line.
His goal was to finish in the top five, which was already very ambitious. Nobody, least of all he himself, expected that it could even have been a victory. A crash with a fishing trawler just 100 nautical miles from the finish prevented this sensation.
Although his arrival alone, his current fourth place, is also such an achievement. For the first time ever, a German has taken part in the race and then also reached the finish line, as well as being in the leading group - a gigantic sporting achievement.
However, Boris still has to tremble a little for fourth place: Jean Le Cam can still push him out of this place with his huge time credit of 16 hours. But fifth place is safe for Boris.
