For a long time there has been no up-to-date German guide to the archipelago. A new English-language book is now setting new standards

Although the Canary Islands have been a hotspot for blue water sailors for many years, there are still relatively few charter crews sailing there - at least if you compare the area with the Mediterranean or the Caribbean. The strong wind gusts in some places and the few safe anchorages require a certain amount of experience. If that doesn't bother you, you can expect a perfect sailing area with fantastic sailing conditions, especially in the European winter.

The author duo Oliver Solanas Heinrichs and Mike Westin have also fallen in love with the islands. Both are cruising sailors themselves and published the "Crusing Guide to the Canary Islands" a few weeks ago after around a year of research. The almost 100-page work is a very successful mix of a classic cruising guide, but supplemented by lots of well-prepared tourist information (nature, food, culture, marine animals, history), which provides crews with a whole host of exciting information for their shore leave. Islands and harbours are provided with aerial photos, harbour plans and extensive data on all useful services.

Each island in the archipelago is first presented in a short two-page introduction with top tips on what you can do and see there as a sailor. Later, there is also brief information for each individual harbour. It comes from locals who live there on boats or work in the yachting industry. Good photos and drawings round off this very successful work.

The 94-page book is published by Imray-Verlag and costs 40.80 euros. It can be ordered from specialised dealers, in Germany for example Hanseanutic.
