What does a co-sailor need to be able to do in order to sail?

A yacht does not sail by itself, and in most cases it is not sailed by just one person. But what do sailing beginners need to be able to do in order not to get in the way or be condemned to inactivity during a trip?

One thing is certain: the quality of the crew is crucial to the success of a great (holiday) cruise. In the new YACHT, experts provide the answers to this question. It's not just about knot tying or advice on how a newcomer should manoeuvre on a ship. Psychology professor and ocean sailor Dr Michael Stadler also gives advice on how to mentally prepare for the new situation on board.

In addition, professional skipper Aloys von Hammel reveals tips on how sailors who are on board a yacht for the first time can prepare themselves, what they should pack and how best to behave in the cockpit of the ship.

More on the subject of "Competent crew" in the new issue of YACHT (16/2006), on newsstands from Wednesday 27 July!
