New marina on the Halkidiki peninsula
Good marinas are in short supply in the north-east of the country. A beautiful new destination was created as part of a hotel project

The Halkidiki peninsula with its three long fingers, near Thessaloniki, is one of the last areas in Greece that is rarely visited by yachties. There are hardly any charter yachts there, the area does have a few tourist centres, but in between it is like sailing in the rest of Greece 30 years ago. However, the region is poor in good marina infrastructure. The season is also somewhat shorter, as the high mountains in the north send cold air masses into the area in autumn and spring.

All the better that Marina Miraggio, which belongs to the hotel of the same name, is a new address in Paliouri. The small harbour, located directly in front of the luxurious complex, can accommodate around 80 yachts. The basin is 4.5 to 10 metres deep, there are water and electricity connections, a petrol station and WiFi. The facility is guarded 24 hours a day. Visitors will find a total of nine restaurants and bars in the hotel and can use the spa area of the thermal baths for an additional charge. Winter camping pitches are also available.

However, the service comes at a price: in July, a 12-metre yacht costs around 100 euros per night including VAT.
