Kerstin Fähling from Farven in Lower Saxony has won the prize of a place on this heavy weather cruise across the Bay of Biscay. She will set off from Portsmouth on 7 October, heading west towards Falmouth. Depending on the weather conditions, the starting signal will then be given for the crossing of the Bay of Biscay, possibly with a stopover in Brest. The destination of La Coruña should be reached by 19 October. The trip will be sailed on the 60-foot aluminium sloop "Marlin" by professional skipper and circumnavigator Michael Wnuk, with a berth costing 1495 euros.
The heavy weather training is part of the transfer of the "Marlin" to the Caribbean. "The trip will be demanding, oilskins and seaworthiness are very important," predicts skipper Wnuk and promises a sailing challenge. There are further sailing opportunities on the "Marlin" on the feeder cruise, which runs from Kiel along the North Sea coast to Portsmouth in the Solent at the end of September.
