The pre-Alpine lakes are a dream area for trailer boat sailors and charter crews right on the doorstep. Large 19-page special

Anyone who has ever glided gently across Lake Chiemsee in light winds and sunshine, with a view of mountains still covered in snow and onion domes, knows that the German inland waters in the south offer sailing highlights that are second to none.

Breathtaking scenery, quaint villages, cosy beer gardens and restaurants everywhere, plus the unbeatable combination of short travel distances - these are ideal sailing areas. Admittedly, the lakes are not always huge, and some areas can be sailed on a long weekend. But with the right tips from locals, there is usually enough to do for a week. More and more crews are also using the lakes for a combination of land and sailing holiday, which is in no way inferior to a coastal cruise in terms of variety.

In the new YACHT No. 20, we have compiled area portraits of Lake Constance, Lake Ammersee, Lake Starnberg, Lake Chiemsee and Lake Staffelsee for you. Plus tips on the best places to moor your trailer boat, go ashore, visit a restaurant, enjoy culture or take part in regattas from locals who have been sailing on the lake for many years. And, of course, all the important regulations and tips on where to find suitable charter options.
