Nestled between Rügen, Usedom and the mainland lies a gem. Sailors will find variety and relaxation on the Greifswalder Bodden. It is sheltered, but not undemanding, and forms the heart of what is probably the most varied sailing area on the German coast. To the west, behind the Strelasund, is the Darß-Zingster Bodden chain, with the island of Rügen to the north. To the south, the route heads across the Peene River to Usedom and across the Little Lagoon into the Szczecin Lagoon to the Polish border. The open sea lies to the east.

Arrival from the west, via Hiddensee or the first accessible harbour Barhöft, is typical for yachts from outside the area. From the south, it is mainly crews from the Berlin area that come to the Bodden waters; from the east, the area is often just a kind of diversion to avoid the harsh weather on the open sea north of Rügen in the sheltered waters and still gain space to the west.

The big report shows the most beautiful cruising destinations for a relaxed two-week cruise.

Around Funen - the most beautiful anchorages

A quiet night at anchor in the midst of unspoilt nature is part of a summer cruise. In the evening, a barbecue on the beach and a walk around the island, in the morning a swim in the sea. Almost everyone who spends some time sailing in the Danish South Sea has their own personal favourite spots - and always heads for them. But there is an unofficial hit list of anchorages, so to speak, some of which you simply have to "do" as a Baltic Sea sailor, such as Thurøbund or the picturesque Gennerfjord.

It's also worth leaving the beaten track. Because you can't always see what a bay has to offer on the map or just by driving past.

We have put together 15 places around Funen that offer sufficient shelter, are beautifully situated and sometimes even make an exciting shore leave possible.

Harbour update

Sometimes in small, sometimes in big steps - something is happening along the German Baltic coast. Many projects are aiming in the same direction: merging tourism and nautical activities. Harbour resorts, floating houses, motorhome pitches, promenades - the previous separation of water and land holidays is increasingly being abolished.

This does not necessarily have to be a disadvantage for sailors. They will also benefit if the infrastructure in the harbour area is improved.

The overview in the Baltic Sea Special shows in detail what is happening where.
