The Glewitz water hiking rest area on the Strelasund is an addition to the harbour network. It offers 50 berths, but few in the surrounding area

The very dense network of small, publicly funded harbours has been enriched by a new destination in the Strelasund. A marina with 50 berths has been opened in Glewitz on the island of Rügen, right next to the jetty of the Rügen ferry to the mainland coast. The project was built over the last two years with 2.3 million euros in funding.

Glewitz offers moorings directly on the sound as well as new sanitary facilities including a washing machine and tumble dryer. The facility is relatively remote and somewhat exposed to strong southerly winds. The water depths in the basin should be around 2.2 to 2.9 metres. This means that the network of water hiking rest areas has become even narrower. A view just 900 metres across the sound shows just how narrow: directly opposite is the Stahlbrode facility, and less than four miles further on are the Neuhof marina and another resting place for boaters, this time in Puddemin. The latter two in particular are very safe, beautiful alternatives with nice restaurants in the harbour.
