What makes a good harbour? The geographical location? The protection from wind and swell? The surrounding sights and leisure facilities? The availability of repair shops, yacht chandlers, supermarkets and sanitary facilities? Answer: Everything is important, it's the perfect mix that counts. And YACHT readers recently decided what that mix looks like.
Denmark is still by far the favourite sailing area for most German Baltic sailors. Be it for a weekend trip or a long sailing holiday. Islands, bays, fjords, dreamy places and large, modern marinas - such a varied and perfect maritime infrastructure in such a small area is hard to find anywhere else.
But what are the most popular places to visit in the neighbouring country? That's what we wanted to know. Thousands of people took part in the YACHT reader survey by postcard or online. They chose their favourite destinations from hundreds of harbours and awarded marks for criteria ranging from harbour location to child-friendliness.
The result is likely to surprise many. Because it was not a small, dreamy harbour town that won the race. On the contrary. The presentation of the top 25 harbours in Denmark can now be found in the new issue of YACHT (issue 9/06, available in magazine shops from next Wednesday).
But that's not all. The new YACHT is a must-read for anyone who wants to steer the bow to Denmark or the coast of western Sweden this summer. There are 30 pages of cruising suggestions and travel tips.
We show you which fjords along the Danish coast and on the large islands are worth a detour. And we take you into the magical world of the archipelago off the coast of western Sweden.
A read that is guaranteed to awaken longings.
