Title model: The Hanse 360 on test off Greifswald
What characterises the new Hanse 360, which e-drives are best suited for yachts, why are the Kornati islands one of the most beautiful Adriatic areas? Why is it worth owning an old GRP boat? And what drives crews to sail to the far north of the Baltic Sea? You can find out this and much more in the new YACHT!

Buoys can have many functions. They mark fairways, shoals, warning or restricted areas and sometimes even function as a place of longing or pilgrimage. One such sea mark is located at 65° 54'07 North, 22° 39'00 East. The yellow post buoy of Törehamn is the northernmost buoy in the Baltic Sea and thus a landmark for the end of the inland sea.

From a boozy idea to a cult event

It has a walkable edge and is a popular cruising destination for sailors. A selfie with the crew on the navigation mark is obligatory.

Since 2016, the buoy has also been the destination of the MidsummerSail regatta, which is organised according to private rules and runs from the southernmost to the northernmost point of the Baltic Sea - over a distance of 900 nautical miles. What started out as a crazy idea of two friends has become a midsummer regatta classic with a waiting list. In this year's YACHT, we reveal whether the popular event has once again lived up to its reputation as the longest and toughest Baltic Sea regatta.

In search of new frontier experiences

From everyman's regatta to everyman's adventure: the Clipper Round the World Race is a race that leads around the world in eight stages. The special thing about the format is that daring sailors can buy their way into the crews of the 70-foot racing yachts for a fee. Sounds tempting at first.

After a long wait and extensive training, our author Andreas Zerr took part in five stages as an experienced recreational sailor and describes his impressive experiences. Reading the report, I had only one thought: "Why would anyone do that to themselves?" If, on the other hand, you're looking for extreme sailing experiences, you seem to be in good hands here.

How do you like this article?

Long-distance regattas, relaxed bayside strolls, sailing around the world, single-handed cruises or classic meetings - we are easily inspired by the versatility of sailing and have only one goal with the selection of our stories: we want to inspire, captivate and entertain you. Which type are you: MidsummerSail or Clipper Race? My choice is made.

Martin Hager

Editor in Chief YACHT

Martin Hager is editor-in-chief of the titles YACHT and BOOTE EXCLUSIV and has been working for Delius Klasing Verlag for 20 years. He was born in Heidelberg in 1978 and started sailing at the age of six, in an Opti of course. This was soon followed by 420s, Sprinta Sport and 470s, which he also sailed on the regatta course with his brother. His parents regularly took him on charter trips through the Greek and Balearic Islands. Even at a young age, it was clear to him that he wanted to turn his passion for water sports into a career. After graduating from high school and completing an internship at the Rathje boatbuilding company in Kiel, it was clear that he did not want to become a classic boatbuilder. Instead, he successfully studied shipbuilding and marine engineering in the Schleswig-Holstein state capital and focused on yacht design wherever he could. His diploma thesis dealt with the “Testing of a new speed prediction method for sailing yachts”. In 2004, the superyacht magazine BOOTE EXCLUSIV was looking for an editor with technical and nautical background knowledge, a position that was perfect for Martin Hager. The application was successful and a two-year traineeship was arranged. After twelve years as an editor, the editorial team changed and he took over responsibility for BOOTE EXCLUSIV as editor-in-chief in 2017. After long-time YACHT editor-in-chief Jochen Rieker moved to the role of publisher, Martin Hager also took over the position of editor-in-chief of Europe's largest sailing magazine YACHT, which is celebrating its 120th anniversary this year, at the beginning of 2023. When he's not working on topics for the two water sports titles, Martin Hager likes to go out on the water himself - preferably with kite and wingfoil equipment or on a little after-work trip across the Alster.
