Enkhuizen! Which water sports enthusiast in the Netherlands doesn't know it? Situated at the intersection of the IJsselmeer and Markermeer, Enkhuizen grew rich and beautiful in the 17th century as an important city of the United East India Company VOC with its trade routes. Today, this time-honoured city is a true water sports Mecca. On a fine day in summer, many hundreds of ships call at the town, using the mooring facilities and the Compagnieshaven.
In addition to the historic architecture of the Golden Zeitlater, the Zuiderzee Museum is of course also worth a visit. The museum is largely open-air and shows the life of people on the former Zuiderzee through the centuries. Visitors can experience the various crafts of the time and even try their hand at them.
A round trip by steamboat and steam train in the Enkhuizen-Medemblik-Hoorn triangle is also possible, for example to make a strong windy harbour day interesting. Or you can simply take your own dinghy and take a tour of the city. Culinary delights await in the cult pub t'Ankertje, the home-brewed beer of the Brouwerij or a dinner with an exquisite view over the IJsselmeer in the Mastenbar.
Enkhuizen is easy to navigate, the approach is well buoyed and even has a leading light on the IJsselmeer side. However, you should be careful on the Enkhuizerzand. It is shallow both to the north and south of the locks outside the fairways
