Beautiful archipelago sailing off the coast of Östergötland.
Sunshine coast: that's what the south-east of Sweden is called. A beautiful area - even when the sky is not cloudless. This part of our summer cruise took us from Kalmarsund to the Östergötland archipelago.

Östergötland is not the first place one associates with an archipelago. When it comes to Sweden, most people probably first think of Bohuslän on the Skagerrak, the coast of Blekinge or, of course, the Stockholm archipelago itself.

Sweden's sunny coast: all four parts

Versatile Östergötland

In this respect, the region just north of the Kalmar Sound, Östergötland, offers more than just a taste of what awaits sailors further north towards Stockholm. There are some very beautiful destinations here, from lively holiday resorts to secluded archipelago harbours. The eastern entrance to the Göta Canal is also located here.

The region is known as the sunshine coast for advertising purposes. Anyone familiar with the Nordic summer knows that this promise is not always true. Nevertheless, this stretch of coast has charm - even if the sky is not bright blue.

The story to read

The cruise section shown here begins in Kalmar, leads northwards over several stages and ends far out on Hävringe skerry. The skerry was to be our jumping-off point for the rest of the journey towards Stockholm. The individual articles in this section can be found here:

Christian Tiedt was born in Hamburg in 1975, but grew up in the northern suburbs of the city - except for numerous visits to the harbor, North Sea and Baltic Sea, but without direct access to water sports for a long time. His first adventures then took place on dry land: With the classics from Chichester, Slocum and Co. After completing his vocational training, his studies finally gave him the opportunity (in terms of time) to get active on the water - and to obtain the relevant licenses. First with cruising and then, when he joined BOOTE in 2004, with motorboats of all kinds. In the meantime, Christian has been able to get to know almost all of Europe (and some more distant destinations) on his own keel and prefers to share his adventures and experiences as head of the travel department for YACHT and BOOTE in cruise reports.
