Östergötland is not the first place one associates with an archipelago. When it comes to Sweden, most people probably first think of Bohuslän on the Skagerrak, the coast of Blekinge or, of course, the Stockholm archipelago itself.
In this respect, the region just north of the Kalmar Sound, Östergötland, offers more than just a taste of what awaits sailors further north towards Stockholm. There are some very beautiful destinations here, from lively holiday resorts to secluded archipelago harbours. The eastern entrance to the Göta Canal is also located here.
The region is known as the sunshine coast for advertising purposes. Anyone familiar with the Nordic summer knows that this promise is not always true. Nevertheless, this stretch of coast has charm - even if the sky is not bright blue.
The cruise section shown here begins in Kalmar, leads northwards over several stages and ends far out on Hävringe skerry. The skerry was to be our jumping-off point for the rest of the journey towards Stockholm. The individual articles in this section can be found here:
