The Müritz Sail in Waren has established itself as a major maritime event. More than 40,000 visitors flocked to the water sports festival on Germany's largest inland lake for the 24th time last weekend. This year, the German Sailing Association (DSV) used the event for the first time for its taster sailing programme "Sailing Days".
The programme for this year's Müritz Sail ranged from water sports trends to sailing regattas. Despite the changeable weather with strong winds of up to seven Beaufort, the organisers were satisfied with the atmosphere in Waren harbour: "We were represented for the first time with our DSV pagoda and the taster sailing offer in Waren harbour and are delighted with the atmosphere and the palpable enthusiasm for water sports," said Rainer Tatenhorst, Head of the Cruising and Leisure Sailing Department of the DSV. Next year, the Müritz Sail will celebrate its 25th anniversary. The event offers a varied programme on and around the water with numerous hands-on activities and entertainment
The DSV is planning to continue its involvement. "We definitely want to be involved again next year and offer interested parties of all ages a low-threshold introduction to sailing," explained Tatenhorst. The strategy for the next edition has already been finalised. "With different types of boats, we want to present a noiseless and emission-free alternative to the heavily represented motorboat segment of the trade fair," said Tatenhorst. The great popularity of Müritz Sail and the region's potential for sailing are to be further utilised next year together with the clubs and the regional association. The focus will be on presenting different types of boats as an environmentally friendly option to motorised water sports.
Four regional clubs supported the "Days of Sailing" in Waren: Röbeler Segler-Verein, Warener Seglerverein, Wassersportverein Waren "Stille Bucht von Kamerun" and Segler-Verband Mecklenburg-Vorpommern were involved in the taster sailing programme. The cooperation between the DSV and local stakeholders made it possible to offer a wide range of activities for interested parties. The clubs contributed their expertise and materials to give visitors direct access to sailing.
The DSV is continuing its concept of low-threshold introductory offers at various water sports fairs. The next "Days of Sailing" will take place from 23 to 27 September as part of Interboot on Lake Constance.
