At the end of July, the Lauenburg lock on the Elbe-Lübeck Canal will have to be completely closed for three days to allow urgent work to be carried out to ensure the safe passage of vessels.

​The Lauenburg lock, situated at the junction of the Elbe-Lübeck Canal and the River Elbe, will be closed at the end of the month for urgent works. The closure will begin at midnight on 27 July and is expected to last until midnight on 30 July. The Elbe Waterways and Shipping Authority is responsible for the closure. The closure was announced in a Latest news for inland waterway transport (NfB) published.

Along the Elbe-Lübeck Canal, which runs from the River Elbe to the Baltic Sea, the Lauenburg lock is the first of seven. The original structure, built in 1900, was replaced by a new lock in 2006. The usable chamber length is 115 metres, with a head of 4.75 metres at mean water level.
