On the cover of the new YACHT 5/2025 you can see a Bavaria 37 Cruiser, built in 2006, which we have now sailed again for our big used boat test
How does a yacht that is almost 20 years old compare with today's boats? Why aren't all boats fitted with collision bulkheads from the shipyard? Which current boat shoe models are non-slip, quick-drying, comfortable to wear and also look good? What are the chances that the sailing speed record will soon be broken? And: How crazy do you have to be to sail the Northwest Passage? All this and much more can be found in the new YACHT.

When I took over the helm of YACHT just over two years ago, I couldn't imagine how 25 issues with a total of around 2,800 pages of content could be filled with sailing topics. I was slightly panicked, to be honest.

However, thanks to a well-coordinated editorial team of experienced and enthusiastic water sports enthusiasts, this is no problem, as this issue shows. With a great deal of commitment and creativity, we keep discovering stories that wonderfully reflect the passion and versatility of sailing.

I now know that even 50 issues a year would be no problem, because our sailing world is full of people who are realising their dreams, be they sporting, private or business-related. We are surrounded by enthusiasm, perseverance and dream destinations. Who wouldn't go into raptures!

Chasing records with perseverance

A good example of this kind of endurance is the Swiss SP-80 team, which is preparing to pulverise the now twelve-year-old record for the fastest sailing boat in the world. At that time, "Vestas Sailrocket 2" travelled across Lüderitz Bay in Namibia at 65.45 knots - a hussar ride!

YACHT has been following the preparation of the project for several years, and now we finally got the opportunity to be part of an SP-80 trial run off Leucate in the south of France. Our long-time colleague Andreas Fritsch got to know the team around boss and helmsman Mayeul van den Broek, familiarised himself with the principle of a hyperventilating foil and took a seat in the sardine-tight carbon cockpit (picture left) of the record hunter. You can find out how fast the kite-accelerated Tri was and what record speed the Swiss are aiming for in the new YACHT.

What shipyard bosses and other industry insiders sail privately

In issue 15/24, we told you what the YACHT editorial team sails. You liked these insights so much that we have now scoured the boatbuilding and sailing industry for exciting owner-ship constellations.

This topic is no less exciting: watertight bulkheads keep water out and can save the ship and crew. Why are they not standard and how can they be retrofitted?

And: boat shoes are essential for life on board. They ensure sure-footedness and protect your feet. We have extensively tested the latest models and reveal how expensive they are and what they can do.

We hope you enjoy reading the new YACHT!
