The Danish app Sejlerkortet is expanding its territory: as of this month, German harbours along the Baltic Sea coast have also been integrated into the application. This means that the cruise planning platform, which was previously used primarily in Denmark, is now expanding well beyond the country's borders.

According to the developers, the latest update includes a total of 356 new harbours - including 215 in Germany and 141 in Sweden. Coverage now extends from Flensburg to Świnoujście and along the Swedish coast from Simrishamn to Gothenburg. In total, the Sejlerkortet App now has more than 770 harbours.

Trip planning via app

The free app is primarily aimed at cruising sailors and motorboat drivers who want to prepare their trips. The focus is on harbour information, prices, infrastructure and the quick calculation of distances, travel times and fuel consumption. Unlike classic navigation apps, Sejlerkortet sees itself more as a digital tool for trip planning.

A special feature of the platform is its community approach: users can add or update harbour information themselves - such as mooring fees, sanitary facilities or refuelling options. According to the operator, several thousand updates were added by users in the past year alone. As the app thrives on the community, the developers are now looking for local sailors on their website to help keep the German harbour data up to date.

The "Wattenschipper.de" website, which is popular with Wadden sailors, has been given a visual and technical overhaul.

Technically, Sejlerkortet relies on an "offline-first" principle. Map and harbour data are automatically saved and updated in the background so that information remains available even without a mobile phone connection during the trip. The app was developed by Danish sailor and entrepreneur Morten Kjems, who previously worked for Dansk Sejlunion, among others. The app is available free of charge for iOS and Android.

Jill Grigoleit was born in Hanover in 1985. An early childhood memory is the large collection of YACHT and SURF magazines from her sailing and surfing enthusiast father. However, growing up in a small Swabian village on the Neckar, she had less to do with water sports in her childhood, apart from a few trips to the Baltic Sea with her family. After studying journalism in Bremen and Hanover, she went into television for a few years. Through a few lucky coincidences, she ended up on the water in 2011 and then returned to the written word professionally. For over ten years, she lived with her family on a houseboat in their own harbor south of Hamburg and wrote a book about houseboat building and life with children on the water. Since 2020, she has mainly been writing travel reports and features about people who live and work on and near the water for BOOTE. She has been a permanent member of the Delius Klasing water sports editorial team since January 2024.
