The Bahamas are still little known as a charter destination. Yet the archipelago comprises more than 700 islands, most of which are uninhabited. It also boasts fantastic beaches and crystal-clear water. In this section, we introduce you to Abaco

The northernmost Bahamian island of Abaco is home to several charter bases, including those of The Moorings and Dream Yacht Charter. It is a ten-minute drive from the airport in Marsh Harbour. The sailing area stretches over just 50 nautical miles. It is extremely sheltered, as it is virtually surrounded by numerous small and tiny islands off Abaco, the cays. They were colonised by British Loyalists at the end of the 18th century, who established their very own architectural style here: you can still admire American wooden houses with British pointed roofs. There is always an empty anchorage in front of an uninhabited island. However, the majority of the cays are developed for tourism, with marinas and good restaurants. Even then, a deserted beach is usually never more than a few minutes' walk or a short dinghy ride away.
