Only a few flags with the Bavaria logo will be flying in the Vieux Port of Cannes next week. As a management spokesperson confirmed to YACHT online today, the Giebelstadt-based shipyard will not be exhibiting any yachts there. Only multihulls from Bavaria Catamarans (formerly Nautitech) will be presented - the French-based subsidiary that has not yet been affected by the company's insolvency proceedings.
There was no alternative to the decision not to make a major appearance in Cannes. After all, there is still no new investor who can guarantee the continuation of what was once Germany's largest sports boat shipyard.
According to a report by the Main-Post from last week According to reports, there is said to be an interested party who has promised an immediate takeover and also wanted to pre-finance the trade fair costs. However, a contract with the ominous bidder, who allegedly has close contacts with an Italian luxury shipyard, has not yet been finalised, contrary to his assurances.
The spokesperson explains Bavaria's withdrawal from the world's most important autumn trade fair as follows: "We are not exhibiting in Cannes this year because it has never been the most important show for us. The situation is different for Bavaria Catamarans, who will be presenting their multihull yachts here. Bavaria will be represented at other autumn trade fairs with sailing yachts and motorboats."
Meanwhile, efforts are continuing to find a buyer for the shipyard by the end of the month. According to Tobias Brinkmann, the Hamburg-based insolvency expert and acting managing director of Bavaria, talks are still ongoing "with a small handful" of potential investors.
