Lunven is a two-time winner in the Figaro and took part in the Volvo Race twice, once on board the Spanish "Mapfre" team and once on Dee Caffari's "Turn the Tide on Plastic". The Breton recently caused a minor sensation in the Bermudes 1000 Race when he finished fourth in the field of the new top Imocas with a non-foiler under the Banque Populaire banner. The 39-year-old from Vannes has sailed on Imocas from time to time, including as co-skipper in transatlantic races, and his declared goal is to take part in the Vendée Globe. So far, he has not managed to get his own project off the ground. So now he will be setting off with Boris Herrmann's team and the new "Malizia Seaexplorer" on the stage race around the world from Alicante on 15 January 2023.

"Nico is an incredibly talented sailor and I'm looking forward to joining forces as a team," comments Boris Herrmann on the expansion of his team, which should now be complete with Will Harris, Rosalin Kuiper and onboard reporter Antoine Auriol.

At the christening of the new "Malizia" in Lorient the day before yesterday (to the video here ), YACHT had a brief opportunity to speak to Will Harris about the strengthening of Herrmann's Ocean Race team. He emphasised that one of Lunven's strengths is the precise analysis of boat performance data and how this can be perfectly implemented in the respective sailing conditions.

The Frenchman himself says in a video from the Malizia team that he has specialised heavily in weather analysis and tactics in recent years and hopes to be able to support the team here.
