The Åland archipelago lies at the point where the Baltic Sea meets the Gulf of Bothnia. For local sailors, the islands are a distant destination. However, if you have plenty of time in the summer, leave your boat near Stockholm for the winter or organise a chain cruise with changing crews, the archipelago is within easy reach.

A German sailing couple are convinced that the journey is worthwhile. Last year, they travelled to the islands as part of a major Baltic Sea tour - and were delighted. The archipelago only consists of a few larger islands. But they are all very different in character, sometimes rocky, barren and rugged, sometimes green, wooded and of a gentle nature.

The sailors have almost circumnavigated the islands and explored harbours and anchorages along the way. They describe these in their cruise report with descriptive texts and atmospheric photos. Their report can now be read in YACHT (issue 12/2021, available now in newsagents and as a digital edition in the YACHT app and can be ordered directly here ). Or you can download the trip report directly via the link below.
