The future owner's discussions with the Dutch experts from Dykstra and Royal Huisman about his ideas for a new ship resulted in a design that initially seemed anachronistic: a ketch, 56 metres long. Insiders, however, were not surprised by the solution. It was not the first yacht of this size to be given such a rig by the designers at Dykstra.
After all, a two-master still has its advantages over a sloop when travelling in comfort on blue water. And that was ultimately what it was all about: a yacht for pleasant long journeys with the family. It also had to look chic and stylish, with a clear, uncluttered deck and flat superstructure. The priorities were clear.
All the more astonishing then what happened at the regatta premiere of the "Aquarius" in the Caribbean. The yacht, designed as a cruising boat, showed the assembled and well-known competition - including the J-Class "Velsheda" - the stern several times and won her class with aplomb. The lady revealed unexpected qualities.
