With the 21.68 metre-long "Volante", the Greifswald shipyard delivered yet another carbon yacht from the Y7 series. The easy-to-sail semi-custom models are also popular with owners who previously owned motor yachts.

BOOTE EXCLUSIV sailed the first Y7 "Bella" off Mallorca in summer 2019; you can find a detailed portrait in issue 5/19 or here. Stylistically, the Y7 can be categorised as maritime minimalism, which can be seen in the exterior by Bill Tripp and is particularly evident in the hygge interior by the product designers and architects from Norm Architects in Copenhagen. The layout offers a choice of three or four guest cabins, one of which is located in the bow and is reserved for the owner. The galley on "Volante" is located amidships and can be moved aft in front of the crew accommodation on the port side if desired.

The standard sail area of 300 square metres, in combination with the sporty tripp lines, the 3.50 metre deep T-keel and the displacement of 29.5 tonnes, aims to keep the engine at rest even when the wind is blowing at two to three Beaufort. There is also the option of attaching a 550 square metre gennaker or 350 square metre Code 0 to the fixed bowsprit. Thanks to push-button trim, self-tacking headsails and the absence of aft or back stays, the Y7 is even ideal for solo sailing. All sail systems and the lazarette folding mechanism are electrically operated; only the kicker relies on hydraulics.

The 21.68 metre long and 5.75 metre wide "Volante" will be followed this year by two more deliveries of YYachts' entry-level model, which appeals to a wide range of customers. "In fact, around 25 per cent of all Y7 owners previously owned a motor yacht," says YYachts founder Michael Schmidt. The owner of "Bella" also previously travelled without sails. A Y8 and the new flagship Tripp 90 are also being fitted out in the YYachts halls in Greifswald, both of which are also made of carbon fibre.
