The largest traditionally hand-sailed cruise ship in the world is docking in Hamburg for the first time today. Numerous ships will welcome the luxury liner

Between 15:30 and 16:00, the "Sea Cloud Spirit" will pass Willkomm-Höft before mooring at the Übersee-Brücke at around 17:00. A fireboat, traditional ships and numerous pleasure craft will give the luxury liner a fitting welcome and accompany her to her berth.

In addition to the official reception committee on the water, many onlookers are expected who do not want to miss the arrival of this unique cruise ship. Watching costs nothing, but travelling on board does. From around 4,000 euros per person, for example, you can have a good time on a short six-day cruise.

After the "Sea Cloud" and the "Sea Cloud II", the "Sea Cloud Spirit" is the third and largest ship of the Hamburg-based shipping company Sea Cloud. 138 metres long and 17.2 metres wide, the ship can accommodate 136 paying guests and a crew of 85.

The three-master with full square rigging, including all staysails and jibs as well as the mizzen, has a total of 28 sails and an impressive sail area of 4,100 m². By comparison, the Russian four-master "Kruzenshtern" has a total sail area of 3,553 m².

According to Sea Cloud Cruises, the luxury liner can sail at speeds of up to twelve knots under optimal wind conditions. In light winds, a diesel-electric drive with a total output of 3,400 kilowatts comes to the rescue.

From Hamburg, the "Sea Cloud Spirit" sails via Arendal to Oslo, from where it continues to Gdansk via Århus and Copenhagen. After further stops in the Baltic and North Sea, in the Mediterranean and on the Spanish Atlantic coast, the ship escapes the European winter in November and sets course for the Caribbean.
