The "Orzel Jumne", a replica of an old Viking boat, in the Strelasund on the Baltic Sea
The "Orzel Jumne" is a replica of a Viking boat as it sailed the Baltic 1000 years ago. The trip today is a journey back in time

On a Viking boat across the Baltic Sea? Living like the Vikings in the 12th century? This is exactly what ten young women from Poland set out to do, all with little sailing experience and the aim of getting to know and understand the everyday life of the Vikings - a journey in the service of science.

They are accompanied by two men with sailing experience on the "Orzel Jumne", a replica of a Viking ship. On their adventurous journey in Viking clothing, they face many challenges, such as cooking over an open fire on board, a lack of privacy, strong winds and capsizing.

You can read more about the sailing adventure on the "Orzel Jumne" in the new issue of YACHT (issue 7/2018, available now at newsagents and as a digital edition).
