In addition to the sailing crews Barth/Kohlhoff, Heindl/Jacobs and Kohlhoff/Stuhlhemmer, the football team from Holstein Kiel (already "Team of the Year" once) and the handball team from SG Flensburg-Handewitt (honoured six times so far) are also nominated in the "Team of the Year" category in the 2024 Sportsperson's Choice. Incidentally, the absolute record winners of the voting are the THW Kiel handball team. With 16 awards (out of 23), they won the most votes across all categories. Two sailors were able to secure the title of "Sportsman of the Year" on their own. Heiko Kröger was honoured with the first ever title in 2001, In 2022, the then 17-year-old Ilca sailor Ole Schweckendiek won the prize.
Here you get to the voting, where you have to assign the teams to the randomly generated list with the arrows of their ranking:
Anna Barth and Emma Kohlhoff are active in the Olympic 49er FX. Although they have only been sailing together for a year and a half, they have already achieved significant successes in this short time. At the Junior World Championships in Vilagarcia, Spain, the pair managed to defend their title as U21 Junior World Champions. In the U23 classification, the 20-year-old helmswoman Barth and her 17-year-old foresailor Kohlhoff finished fifth.
The 49er duo Heindl/Jacobs were even more successful at the Junior World Championship off the Spanish coast. The two students only graduated from the Kiel sports boarding school this year. Before their studies began, they were able to concentrate fully on their careers throughout the summer. This finally culminated in their greatest success: the two 19-year-olds secured the title of U21 Junior World Champion and won bronze in the U23 classification.
The third team up for election actually needs little introduction: the Nacra 17 duo Kohlhoff/Stuhlhemmer end their sailing career together after eight years. Even if the Olympic Games in Marseille were rather sobering for them with eighth place - what remains are the memories of a successful career together. This culminated in their sporting highlight at the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo. Winning the bronze medal in the foiling catamaran, which is so difficult to sail, is the absolute highlight of both careers - until now at least. While Paul Kohlhoff's sailing future remains open, Alica Stuhlhemmer has found her new challenge for the coming years: She will be competing in the Olympic windfoil class iQFoil.
Windsurfer Lina Erpenstein is one of the nominees in the "Sportswoman of the Year" category. Our colleagues from SURF have summarised why you should vote for the 28-year-old:
