The year 2024 was a very eventful and multi-faceted year in sailing, with highs and lows. For sailing fans, it offered spectacular competitions such as the fourth SailGP-Season and the persistent economic downturn over the Vendée Globewhich impressed with their innovation and excitement.
Technological advances, including in foiling, took sailing to a new level. The 37th edition of the event stood out in particular. America's Cup. The regatta held off Barcelona not only created breathtaking images, but also a new kind of exciting match racing and captivated a global audience.
The Olympic Games However, the final brought mixed emotions, especially for the German team, who had to travel home without any medals, while other nations, such as Austria, were able to celebrate great successes.
However, the start of the Vendée Globe at the end of the year was also a sporting highlight from a German perspective. The event, which is often described as the "Mount Everest of sailing", started with a record number of participants and promised an exciting race with many innovative new builds, which was also extremely challenging for Boris Herrmann.
