Frank Schönfeldt is one of the most colourful figures on the scene as a 16-time German champion, sailing and songwriter.

The Hamburg sailmaker ( Clown Sails ) has made a name for himself primarily through his successes in the pirate class. But he is also known to many as a singing sailor with the band "Matrose Schönfeldt und die Schwimmwesten".

On three CDs, he has taken aim at the sailing scene in witty and sometimes biting songs. A new album is in the works.

Among other things, the YACHT Championship of Masters is processed, where Schönfeldt is a regular guest. Last year, he finished an excellent fourth. His best result was two second places.

Among other things, the portrait describes the beginnings of the likeable 53-year-old, when he tailored the first OK sails in a container in the backyard of a car mechanic. And when he travelled the European sailing waters with his OK dinghy "Terrorist".

But contact with cutter sailing, which he sings about in the song "Karl der Kutterking", is also a theme. "Karl dreams of a long weekend. Without a single tack..."

This season, the father of four is planning to cut back a little on sailing. This has little to do with the fact that the Pirate has been kicked out of the Kieler Woche, in which Schönfeldt has taken part around 30 times. His boys have needed him as a driver, coach and sailmaker since they were successful in the Opti and 420.
