Whale filmmaker, sailor, environmentalist: Dieter Paulmann
With his yacht, Dieter Paulmann follows the whales on their migrations around the world - and devotes all his energy to protecting the oceans

Dieter Paulmann discovered the beauty of the sea and realised that the best way to experience it was on his own yacht. This is how a hobby became a passion.

On his trips, the now 70-year-old from Darmstadt realised: "The sea concerns us all - if the sea suffers, all living creatures suffer." Paulmann is now a highly respected whale filmmaker and environmentalist and founded the Okeanos Foundation, which supports scientific projects to protect the oceans. The former top manager has channelled all his commitment and a considerable part of his wealth into pursuing this goal.

His current project is a catamaran expedition in the Pacific, which he is accompanying with his 30-metre yacht "Foftein". An exciting endeavour in many respects.

In addition to all the interesting details about the current campaign, this remarkable man said a sentence during the YACHT visit that proves how intensely Paulmann is connected to the sea: "I am convinced that I was once a sperm whale and would like to become one again after my next reincarnation."
