Not even his mother knows where "Michi", who has no other name for himself, is at the moment. His job as a boat builder takes him all over Europe - and he carries everything he owns with him, in the pockets of his guild clothing or in his bundle. The 29-year-old travels from shipyard to shipyard, staying wherever there is work to be done.
It goes without saying that someone like "Michi" has neither a mobile phone nor a computer, so it took three months to reach him with the help of a contact person and eight more before the meeting finally took place. YACHT then accompanied him a little way along the way.
The encounter turns into an immersion into a very special world that has little in common with what otherwise takes place on a daily basis, and not just in the maritime world of work. Michi's way of life is free of hustle and bustle and possessions, he travels for free, as is the tradition on the road, he spends the night somewhere - and then starts another job at the next opportunity. And when that's done, he just moves on. A travelling anachronism.
In an interview with YACHT, "Michi" describes his extraordinary existence, his constant travelling, which took him from the hot south of the continent, where he shed decks, to the north, to Kjerringoy in Norway, where he learned how to build Nordland boats. There is hardly a European country that he has not travelled to over the years. The book in which he documented his travels is full of stamps confirming residence and work permits, notes and dedications. It tells the story of his life.
In the new YACHT you can find out what such a person experiences, what makes him tick, what drives him - and why a rascal is called a "rascal".
