Photos from an estate that has come to light show everyday life at the yacht school of the Imperial Yacht Club in Kiel - the first youth section in Germany. A journey back in time to the 1920s.

In the spring of 1910, the "KYS" was entered in the register of associations as the Imperial Yacht School with its own assets. The spiritus rector was the then almost 70-year-old Admiral Barandon, who from then on went on training voyages with "his" yachting students on the ketch "Zukunft", which was donated by the Kaiser.

Since then, the basic principles of the KYS have been preserved: The young people manage the yacht school themselves, the boats are sailed and maintained on their own responsibility. Beginners learn from experienced sailors, and alumni provide moral and material support. Today, girls and boys are on board together. The yacht school runs daily on small and large boats.
