"Exhausted, but tingling again," is how Melwin Fink (24) and Lennart Burke (27) describe the feeling after the Globe40. By taking part in the round-the-world regatta, the two-handed crew has embarked on an ambitious project. After a promising start, everything was suddenly at stake in the middle of the ocean, far from civilisation. In an interview with host Timm Kruse, they talk about how they dealt with this extreme situation and the thoughts that went through their heads.
The young sailors give an impressive account of what exactly happened on the 5,500 nautical mile leg from La Réunion to Sydney and how the mental strain still affects them today. They are convinced that they made the right decision in this dicey situation. In the podcast, they explain why, despite their magnificent comeback, they were accompanied by a feeling of failure when they arrived in Lorient.
The insights that they both took away from this experience are particularly exciting. What would they do differently next time? What role did the short preparation time play? And what do they want to do next in sailing? Melwin and Lennart talk about their time in Lorient, their upcoming return to Hamburg and how they, as down-to-earth sailors, are dealing with the growing publicity.
An inspiring conversation about setbacks, perseverance and the great passion for sailing.
