An adventure on 19 feet: the Mini Globe Race, in which 15 sailors in self-built plywood yachts sail around the world in five stages for around a year, is a special kind of regatta with extreme requirements. Christian Sauer is one of the participants and successfully crossed the Atlantic in his self-built Mini at the beginning of February. This qualified him for the first edition of the Mini Globe Race. The German sailor has now been at sea since 23 February and is heading for Panama.
Christian's stories and experiences during the Mini Globe Race not only give the audience an insight into the technical aspects of his self-built "Argo", but also into the emotional highs and lows that go hand in hand with such a regatta. They learn how the sailor overcame his initial seasickness and what safety measures he took to make the Atlantic crossing safe.
Christian Sauer talks about his personal experiences during the solo regatta and reveals how his family background has influenced his passion for sailing.
The hobby boat builder explains why these simple, self-built boats place extreme demands on man and material despite their simple construction. The Globe 580 boats impress with their unconventional design. With a length of only 19 feet and a simple design, they nevertheless place high demands on the sailors. In this episode, you can find out how the boat was built, what motivates Christian Sauer and what significance the regatta has!
