The price of sailing around the world is a long break from work and relationships. A couple from Berlin don't want to pay it - and are sailing round the world in stages

Berlin architect Johanna Klostermann, 42, and her husband Lutz, a 43-year-old management consultant, are planning a trip around the world. However, taking several years off, a long interruption to their professional career and personal relationships - none of this is an option for the couple. Then they had an idea. Life on land and a long voyage - "we'll just do both: we'll sail part-time."

Their round-the-world voyage began in Kappeln in March 2012 with interruptions. To date, they have completed five legs in the wake and reached New Caledonia in the South Pacific. The journey there consisted of sections lasting between one and a half and ten months, interrupted by breaks of between one and a half and nine months. But New Caledonia also represents a turning point. This is where the tried and tested Dehler 38 "rund 360°" is sold, on which the pair - now accompanied by their son Levi - have sailed more than halfway around the world. And it is from here that they plan to continue next winter.

The two of them have told their amazing story in the readable Book "Work Sail Balance" is being held. It will be presented on the first weekend of boot in Düsseldorf. You can read an interesting preview in YACHT 2/2018, now on newsstands, in the DK-Shop or directly order digitally here !
