The former editor of YACHT will be reading from his new book, *Wellenberge*, on Monday 2 November at 7.30 pm at the Schnelsen Leisure Centre. The audience can look forward to an evening of profound reflections on life from the perspective of a sailor looking back with a sense of contemplation.
Menso Heyl, born in 1949, has spent his working life in journalism. Among other roles, he was editor-in-chief of the *Hamburger Abendblatt* from 2001 to 2008. He also had long-standing ties to sailing journalism: until early 2023, Heyl was editor of *YACHT*, whose readers have also come to appreciate his books, in which he has on several occasions offered philosophical reflections on his experiences on the water.
At his reading at the Schnelsen Leisure Centre, Menso Heyl will be presenting his new book, *Wellenberge – Aus dem Leben eines Seglers* (Wave Crests – From the Life of a Sailor), and talking about the fascination of sailing, his experiences at sea and the parallels between life on land and on the water.
After all, Heyl himself has been a passionate cruising sailor for many years. And so night-time cruises across the Baltic Sea are just as much a part of his life as the many encounters in small harbours, living together in confined spaces and the special tranquillity of being at anchor.
On Monday evening, Menso Heyl will take the audience on a journey through his travels and share some very personal memories with them. At times reflective, at times humorous, and always with an eye for the little moments that make life special.
An evening not just for sailing enthusiasts, but for anyone who enjoys listening to personal stories and discovering what they have taught the authors about life.
Tickets cost 8 euros and can be bought at the Leisure Centre office or at the box office, or reserved by telephone or email: 040 – 559 24 34 mail@fz-schnelsen.de
