Ramhorst, who is also race director of Kiel Week, was elected at the Sailors' Day in November 2021, which was held virtually at the time due to the coronavirus pandemic. A successor could not be found at the Sailors' Convention. The delegates agreed to postpone the election until the next Sailors' Convention. With the approval of the Sailing Council, the DSV Executive Committee will appoint a representative until the next Sailing Convention.
The Seglertag, which regularly takes place every two years in a different federal state, did not have to decide on any other personnel matters this time. The three motions put to the vote related to the rules of procedure and were submitted by the Executive Committee and the Sailing Council. The delegates voted in favour by a large majority.
Firstly, the documents and applications for the Sailors' Day can now be made available to members via a link on the website. Previously, they had to be sent as an attachment by email. And at future general meetings, the meeting chair no longer has to strictly adhere to the order of the agenda items, but can bring forward an agenda item if necessary.
In addition, the position of an external Good Governance Officer was enshrined in the DSV Articles of Association. Katja Gabius from the Institute for Corporate Governance at the Nürtingen University of Applied Sciences was subsequently elected unanimously.
The annual accounts for 2023 and the budgets for 2025 and 2026 were approved, and it was decided that the next Sailors' Day will take place in Hamburg on 14 November 2026.
The DSV had already invited all delegates to numerous presentations and workshops on sailing and club work on Friday afternoon. In addition, the DSV departments as well as DSV partners and sponsors presented their services and products.
At the invitation of Bodo Bartmann, Chairman of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern State Sailing Association, all delegates met on Friday evening for a typical regional evening in the Warnemünde cruise terminal. The guests of honour included Sports Minister Stefanie Drese, Andreas Bluhm, President of the State Sports Association, and Heiko Lex, Head of Sports Clubs and Olympic Bid of the Hanseatic City of Rostock.
As part of this traditional kick-off event for Sailing Day, Association President Mona Küppers honoured successful sailors for the 2024 season as well as long-serving volunteers for their commitment. The following athletes were honoured on site by the DSV:
In addition, the winners of this year's International German Offshore Sailing Championships, consisting of the Pantaenius Rund Skagen and Capitell Cup Rund Helgoland races, were honoured.
Philipp Buhl from the Norddeutscher Regatta Verein and Segelclub Alpsee-Immenstadt received a standing ovation when DSV President Mona Küppers presented him with the "Silver Laurel Leaf", the highest state honour for top sporting achievements in Germany, on behalf of Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. The outstanding ILCA sailor competed at the Olympic Games three times in a row and was also the first German ever to win the world championship title in his boat class in 2020.
Jochen Quandt was honoured with the DSV's bronze badge of honour for decades of commitment to sailing. The enthusiastic sailor has been chairman of the Sternberg Sailing Club for almost 50 years and still coaches the next generation of sailors today.
The DSV's Golden Badge of Honour was awarded to "Rule Pope" Ulrich Finckh (Münchner Yacht-Club), who knows the racing rules like no other and has been teaching our top sailors and recreational athletes the racing rules in numerous seminars and training courses for decades. As an international referee and race officer, he has demonstrated enormous expertise in the interpretation and application of the International Racing Rules over the past decades. He also received a long standing ovation.
