Circumnavigator Knut Kähler was sentenced to eleven and a half years in prison for gun possession. Bobby Schenk comments on the case

Funnily enough, the thing that interests people most in my blue water seminars (apart from finances) is whether and how you should arm yourself on a long voyage. Recently I have been advising against carrying weapons on board, but most people don't realise this. The story of a well-behaved German circumnavigator who was sentenced to eleven and a half years in prison for shooting chickens with a rifle shows where this can lead. In an Islamic prison, that could easily have been his death sentence or "life sentence".
