Blue Ribbon: Minister President Günther honours student association
The association offers numerous children access to sailing at nine locations in Kiel, Schleswig, Wedel, Rendsburg, Eckernförde, Flensburg, Neustadt, Timmendorfer Strand and Kappeln together with local partner schools. To date, well over 10,000 children from primary school to grammar school have taken up the offer in sailing clubs, interdisciplinary events or as a lesson unit in the timetable.
Sailing capital Kiel
"The work in clubs such as Schüler Segeln Schleswig-Holstein makes Kiel the true sailing capital. With a great deal of commitment, passion and drive, they bring this sport into the centre of society and thus make sailing a real national sport here in the north," said the Minister President at the award ceremony.
They make sailing accessible to young people, regardless of their social situation, background or family connection to water sports,
says Günther. "This is a very important contribution to the sport of sailing in our state." Being honoured with the Blue Ribbon is an expression of great gratitude for the outstanding work of the Schleswig-Holstein School Sailing Association.
Social skills through sailing
This is because it is not only important for the children and young people to learn how to handle a sailing boat. "The pupils also develop their social skills in club life. They learn teamwork skills and experience cohesion and community. This strengthens their self-confidence and trust in themselves and others," emphasised Günther. These qualities are the glue that holds society together.
Blue ribbon since 2007
Since 2007, merits for water sports in Schleswig-Holstein have been honoured with the Blue Ribbon. Previous recipients include the Hamburg/Schleswig-Holstein Olympic Training Centre, the Kiel Yacht Club, the regatta organisers of Kiel Week and Travemünde Week and the Ratzeburg Rowing Academy.
