The former owner of the Emden ship chandlery disembarked after a long, serious illness

At the age of just 53, Thomas Eissing was one of the best-known personalities in the industry. He built up the company that is practically synonymous with the Raymarine brand in Germany today.

Founded in 1956, the family business in the marine electronics sector was taken over by industrial engineer Thomas Eissing from his father in 1992. At that time still mainly active in the commercial shipping sector, Eissing increasingly developed the company into one of the most important wholesalers for electronics in the pleasure craft sector. In 1998, the company became the general importer of the British instrument and plotter manufacturer Autohelm, now known as Raymarine.

Thomas Eissing managed to successfully market both Raymarine and devices from other manufacturers (including ICOM), so that sales grew continuously and the number of employees rose to over 50. In addition to its current headquarters in Emden, the company has branches in Hamburg and Bernau am Chiemsee.

In August 2007, Thomas Eissing sold the flourishing company to Raymarine plc and from then on acted as Managing Director. At the end of 2008, he retired due to illness and Thomas Günther took over as Managing Director.

Thomas Eissing died in his home on 28 January 2010.
