Two years after the end of the legendary voyage of the former extreme sailor, a Saxon court has passed judgement

As the "Sächsische Zeitung" reported last Monday, a court in Dippoldiswalde sentenced the now 58-year-old to a fine of 3,300 euros for fraud. His former main sponsor Mühle, a watch manufacturer from the Saxon town of Glashütte, had charged him with fraud.

The company Mühle Lüchtenborg had provided a total of 25,000 euros for his trip. According to reports in the "Sächsische Zeitung", 5,000 euros have already been repaid and 20,000 are still outstanding.

The report also reveals that just a few weeks after Lüchtenborg's launch, the Mühle company was made aware by a sailor that Lüchtenborg's ship "Sail2Horizons" was anchored in Cape Verde. The "Sächsische Zeitung" reported: "Thilo Mühle contacted the sailor. He confirmed the news and affirmed that he had to make a stop due to technical problems. For Mühle, the issue was off the table."

Surprisingly, however, it took several months before Lüchtenborg's alleged "technical stop" in Cape Verde came to light.
