Series of boat engine thefts stopped
Around 90 outboard motors have disappeared in the Fehmarn/Großenbrode/Grömitz area since spring 2016. A German-Polish gang has now been put to the sword

The police have arrested several people who are strongly suspected of stealing boat engines on a large scale and shipping them to Poland. The series of thefts has kept water sports enthusiasts in the Fehmarn/Bay of Lübeck area on tenterhooks since the start of the 2016 season. According to a police spokesperson, at least 90 outboard motors have been stolen there - the estimated amount of damage is 200,000 euros.

Four men, one gang

Four men have now been caught, one of them from Fehmarn and three from Szczecin. The successful manhunt was made possible by a witness observation, which led to an intensive investigation by the Oldenburg in Holstein criminal investigation department and the second division of the Lübeck district criminal investigation department and finally to the arrest.

Details now known

The police have since released details of the offences. According to them, the perpetrators travelled from Poland to commit the thefts. In addition to marinas, winter storage areas were also broken into. In addition to northern Ostholstein, the gang was also active in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Brandenburg.
