Hard chines, an otherwise round frame and a harmonious, squat superstructure. And what's more, the sporty and agile MeTu 650 is not only attractive, but also suitable for self-build. Owner Urs Tuchschmidt incorporated his ideas as an architect into the design by Klaus Metz in Munich. And he built number 1 himself. His result, the flawless finish, represents the upper end of the self-build spectrum. At the start of his two-and-a-half-year construction project, Tuchschmidt was neither a sailor nor a boat builder. His first pot of epoxy boiled away, but then the learning curve went steeply upwards. Now the ski mountaineer and paraglider can watch the Swiss Alps pass by as a backdrop from his mooring on Lake Zurich. The yacht visited the boat builder and inspected the self-build right down to the immaculately painted storage compartments and discovered numerous detailed design solutions that will benefit every subsequent build.
