Shipyard owner Frank Störck remains true to himself and continues to focus on trailerable boats. Founded in 1993, the company from Erftstadt near Cologne currently has a finely graduated programme: Sailart 17, 19, 20, 22 and 24; it is now expanding this to include an 18-footer. The design by Frank Störck and microcupper expert Zdzisla Abrozej is very modern: The new addition is characterised by straight hull ends, chines, retracted freeboards in the foredeck and striking kinks in the superstructure and cockpit as well as the open cockpit.
The boat will be available in different versions, which will enable it to be used as a single-handed daysailer or a consistent racer for small crews. The performance cruiser is designed for one person on the fittings side; the optimum crew size is two people. In addition to the shape, the low target weight of just 450 kilograms and the large sail area of 20 square metres on the wind ensure good sailing characteristics. This results in a sail carrying capacity of 5.8, a very high value that characterises the Sailart 18 as a regatta boat. The wardrobe is complemented by a 25 square metre gennaker and a very generous 20 square metre code zero. Both are set on the fixed GRP nose.
Thanks to its low weight, width of just 2.30 metres and variable draught, the Sailart 18 is easy to trailer and slip even with a smaller car. The keel can be swivelled and reduces the draught from 1.30 to 0.25 metres if required. The fin disappears almost completely into the hull. The keel box takes up a corresponding amount of space in the boat, but with two berths and storage space, there is still a minimum of overnight comfort. The boat is a sandwich construction with a Divinycell foam core. The boat is foamed unsinkable. In addition to the entire package, the price is also attractive: the little runabout costs 20,900 euros including VAT from Erftstadt. The world première will take place in January at boot Düsseldorf.
