However, this is not the first time that Friedrich J. Deimann's shipyard in Bremen has built a boat from flax fibres instead of glass fibres. GreenBoats has already built two versions of the GreenBente, a special version of the small cruiser Bente 24, and now the innovative and environmentally conscious yacht builders are working on another boat made from flax fibre. This time it will be an 8.20 (26 foot) long daysailer. The design plans were drawn up at Judel/Vrolijk & Co. in Bremerhaven.
Compared to the construction method of the "Bio-Bente", GreenBoats is going one step further for the new project in the direction of the best possible CO2 balance. A foam core made from recycled PET bottles is installed as a sandwich material between the layers of flax fibres. And, a compound made from plant oil, known as "green epoxy", is used as the resin. The shipyard now also wants to focus even more on ecologically sustainable products when it comes to the additional materials required for lamination, such as peel ply or vacuum film.
The 26' Green Daysailer is now under construction and is due to enter the water in March 2019. Series production is planned, whereby the customer can then choose the type and dimensions of the rig. In line with the environmentally friendly concept, Friedrich J. Deimann would like to offer wooden masts or rigs made from recycled aluminium.
The concept provides for a lifting keel with which the draught can be reduced from 1.45 to 0.50 metres. And, the rudder is in a cassette and can also be raised in a single movement. This means that the daysailer, which weighs just 1.35 tonnes, can be easily trailered and can also be lowered in and out of the water via the slip ramp. The prototype will be used purely as a daysailer and is empty inside. However, the buyer can also choose a modest interior with the amenities required for a short cruise.
The shipyard does not yet have a concrete price for the 26' Green Daysailer. However, shipyard boss Deimann is talking about a basic price for the ready-to-sail boat of around 100,000 euros.
