The new Lycra from Marinepool looks like a normal top, but inflates in an emergency and serves as a buoyancy aid

The Aquardian Pro Shirt from Marinepool is a lycra with an integrated buoyancy chamber. The quick-drying shirt with sun protection factor 50+ is designed to offer additional safety when surfing, on the SUP board and also when snorkelling. In an emergency situation, it can be triggered manually. A CO2 cartridge then inflates the integrated buoyancy chamber. The Pro Shirt is said to have 50 newtons of buoyancy and is certified in accordance with ISO 12402-5, meaning it fulfils all the requirements for a buoyancy aid.

Available in sizes S/M for 40 to 60 kilograms, L/XL for 60 to 90 kilograms and XXL for 80 to 100 kilograms body weight. The shirt itself weighs one kilogramme and is therefore somewhat heavier than normal Lycra. The price is 140 euros.

Michael Rinck war das Kind, das nach der Schule direkt aufs Wasser wollte – Segeltraining, Regatten, Hauptsache nass. Diese Vorliebe machte er zum Beruf: Erst als Segellehrer auf der Alster (während des Studiums), dann ab 2014 in der YACHT-Redaktion. Dort hat er im Bereich Test & Technik seine Berufung gefunden: Segelboote und Sicherheitsequipment testen. Was besonders bei Rettungswesten und MOB-Systemen bedeutet, dass er mehr Arbeitsstunden im Wasser treibend verbringt als die meisten Menschen im Büro sitzend. Höhepunkt: eine ganze Nacht in der Rettungsinsel auf der Ostsee. Seine Familie hat inzwischen durchgesetzt, dass Urlaubstörns auf der eigenen Fahrtenyacht deutlich trockener ablaufen.
