Water-repellent and comfortable: Plastimo and Spinlock launch new safety lines with aluminium carabiners

The performance safety lines from Spinlock are said to weigh up to 50 per cent less than previous products. The large aluminium carabiners have a two-stage opening mechanism so that they can hardly unhook unintentionally. The webbing is water-repellent, which should keep the weight low when used on board. Versions with one, two or three carabiners are available. The type of attachment to the waistcoat can also be selected. Those who wear the Lifeline permanently can use the fixed belt loop instead of the snap shackle. Prices start at 59 euros.

Plastimo has also revised its safety lines: The polyester webbing straps are now black with neon yellow and have a reflective tape. In addition to the familiar stainless steel hook, there are two new ones made of aluminium, one with a screw lock and one with a one-hand lock. There are also different versions to choose from: carabiner and strap loop, two or three carabiners. Prices start at 41 euros for the simplest version with a screw lock. The premium aluminium snapper costs at least 53 euros.

Wichard is a pioneer in aluminium technology; the French have been offering their Proline for several years. The special aluminium carabiner is very easy to use, even opens 27 millimetres and has a luminescent locking mechanism. However, at 290 euros, the Proline with two carabiners and a stretch belt is also one of the most expensive models.
