The so-called fire extinguishing generators of the TA family from Dynameco are also suitable for use on sailing boats. In the event of a fire, a pyrotechnic charge is ignited by a temperature sensor (the TA stands for thermal activation), which produces potassium carbonate through a chemical process. This creates an aerosol that spreads throughout the room and is designed to stop the fire in the shortest possible time. The advantage over conventional powder extinguishers is that the aerosol extinguishing systems extinguish automatically even when nobody is on board.
They are also independent of a power supply. In addition, hardly any extinguishing agent residue remains after the extinguishing process. Such residues usually cause the greatest consequential damage when powder extinguishers are used successfully.
Dynameco's aerosol extinguishers are available in three sizes, depending on the volume of the location. For engine rooms or forecastle boxes, the unit for 1.5 cubic metres of extinguishing volume with 200 grams of extinguishing agent is sufficient. The medium size with 300 grams of extinguishing agent is designed for volumes of up to 2.3 cubic metres, and the largest with 2000 grams of extinguishing agent is sufficient for 15 cubic metres. The system is not cheap, with prices starting at 950 for the small, 1070 for the medium and 2270 euros for the most powerful size.
