Passion and longing - hardly any other hobby or sport triggers these cognitive phenomena more than sailing. It seems as if the dream of freedom, endless expanses and adventure is easier to realise on the water than on land.
It's no coincidence that our favourite pastime is booming and attracting many people. For this reason, we are launching the five-part series "Sailing for beginners" in this issue of YACHT, which not only shows a variety of inexpensive ways to get out on the water (Part 1), but also provides tips for training and further education (Part 2). There are also the topics of on-board practice (Part 3), useful advice for the first charter trip (Part 4) and, of course, a guide to buying a boat.
We also have some exciting articles for experienced sea dogs. In an article about paper nautical charts, we pose the legitimate question: Do printed navigational aids have to be constantly corrected? We also reveal when nautical charts are accepted as up-to-date during police checks on board.
The saying "Jede Jeck is anders" is an integral part of the Cologne dialect and perfectly describes the individuality and peculiarities of each person. Anyone who has ever sailed with strangers on board - whether as skipper or guest - knows the crisis potential that arises from these differences. Marco Sasse, who has been skippering berth charter trips for several years, describes how a good crew can be formed from individual sailors.
Nowadays, hardly any sailors plan their next trip with the help of paper charts. Instead, free online chart services are increasingly being used, although their range of functions differs considerably. We present the most helpful providers. Have fun planning your next trip!
